David Lee Porter, "Porter", age 64 of Springfield Twp., Ohio, died on Christmas Day 2016 at 7:10 AM at his home with his loving wife by his side.
He was born on November 29, 1952 in Akron, the son of the late Lee Scott and Margaret Jean Ledgerwood Porter.
Porter was a 1971 graduate of Springfield High School and also a 1975 graduate of the University of Akron with a BA Degree in Business Management. Porter was a former police officer for Lakemore Police Dept. and also a former deputy for Portage County Sheriffs Department. He worked in the Akron Municipal Clerk of Courts office as a traffic clerk. Porter was also a paralegal associate for a number of years for private law offices. For about the last 20 years, Porter was a lineman for AT&T.
Mr. Porter had many interests, he was a dive master, he taught CCW Classes, photography-publishing a few pictures, and collecting movies. He was also an avid Buckeye fan. Dave was a member of the National Thespian Society as he enjoyed theatre and directing plays for Lake Players.
Survivors include his wife, the former Nancy Goddard Buccigross, whom he married on August 30, 2015; his step-daughters, Nikki (Matt) Salmon, and Ashley (Curt Bennett) Buccigross; six grandsons, Christian, Gabriel, Nathaniel, Connor, Colin, and Aiden.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 30, 2016 at 1:00 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 North Canton Road, Akron, where Rev. Thomas McCann will celebrate Porter's life.
Family and friends may visit from Noon until the time of the service on Friday, December 30, 2016.
