Diana Zaleski, age 76, died as a result of complications from Bulbar ALS on April 08, 2017. Diana was born March 2, 1941 in Akron, Ohio. She graduated from Akron North High School in 1958.
Diana was a proud democrat and served as the Summit County Clerk of Courts for 20 years. She was presented with numerous commendations, some of which were the Cliff Skeen Lifetime Achievement Award, Michael Powell Humanitarian Award, BPW Community Woman of the Year, Community Health Center Presidents Award, Harold K Stubbs Humanitarian Award, Akron Bar Association Public Service Award and many days were dedicated in her honor. Diana was a member of the Summit County Crime Clinic, Federated Democratic Women, Community Drug Board, Sons of Italy and many other organizations.
Diana leaves to mourn her passing, her daughters, Debbie Cincurak and Karen Hiltbrand, and her son, Michael (Sharon) Zaleski. She also is survived by her beloved grandchildren, Danielle, Lauren, Maggie, Jessica and Nicholas. She also leaves her sisters, Mary Martin, Josephine Johnson; sister-in-law, Rosemary Palcheff, and many nieces and nephews. Her loyal friend George Bleyle continued to support her during her health struggle. Her family will forever be grateful for Chelita Parker, who cared for her with dignity and friendship, as well as Melody Treap who provided her comfort in her last days.
She will be lovingly remembered for her beautiful blue eyes, her love of travel, her ability to jitterbug and her skill to meet strangers and make them friends.
Calling hours will be held Thursday, April 13, 2017 from 4-8pm at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron, and Friday, April 14, 2017 from 10-11am. Funeral service will be held at 11am. Interment at Hillside Memorial Park, Akron, to follow.
Memorial donations can be made in her name to the ALS Society of Northeast Ohio.
