Theodore W. Logan, Sr.
August 3, 1930 — April 12, 2017
Theodore W. Logan, Sr., "Ted", age 86 of Akron, Ohio, died on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at his home.
He was born on August 3, 1930 in Wells Twp., Pennsylvania, the son of the late Theodore and Mary Bertha Williams Logan.
Ted was a 1949 graduate of Saxton Liberty High School in Saxton, PA, and was retired in 1993 from Ohio Bell/ATT after 39 years of service. He enjoyed yard work and family functions. Ted loved ice cream and Reese's Cups and dancing with his wife, especially the polka. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Ted was a very active member of St. Matthew Church in Akron where he was a member of the Holy Name Society. He was instrumental in starting bingo, and helped at all the church dances, especially New Year's Eve parties.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus in the Charles Reymann Council #4664 and the Telephone Pioneers of America.
Mr. Logan was an honorably discharged US Navy Veteran serving during the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife, the former Betty Kovalchik, whom he married on August 20, 1955; his children, Pamela (Terry) Lepola, Susan (Brian) Drum, Ted Logan, Jr., Robert (Pamela) Logan, and Matthew (Kathleen) Logan; his grandchildren, Nicole (Cory), Justin, Jason (Krystle), Erin (Robert), Christina (John), Jennifer (Paul), Joshua (Brittany), Shawn, Ryan, and Timothy; and 11 great-grandchildren. Ted's sister also survives, Rita of Bedford, PA.
Other than his parents, Ted was preceded in death by three sisters.
Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at 11:00 AM at St. Matthew Church, 2580 Berne Street, Akron, where Father Mike Williamson will celebrate Ted's life. Morning prayers will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home at 10:15 AM before processing to the church for Mass.
Family and friends may visit at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 North Canton Road, Akron, on Monday, April 17, 2017 from 4:00 - 8:00 PM.
Ted will be laid to rest at Holy Cross Cemetery in Akron.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Matthews School Fund.
