John "Jack" Louis Scalzo Jr., age 70, passed away suddenly on the evening of Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at his home in Green, Ohio.
John was born on January 29, 1947. He was the firstborn of a large and loving Italian family.
John served our country from 1966 to 1969 during the Vietnam conflict serving in the United States Army as a mechanic. He was honorably discharged with the rank of E-5.
John started his career at the Scalzo family Gulf station located in Goodyear Heights, Akron. He continued his career working as a diesel mechanic for various companies in northeast Ohio. This line of work took its toll on his body however, he rarely complained.
John lived his life in support of his family. He was most proud of his children and grandchildren. He taught his children to be compassionate, to work hard, and to be self sufficient. John was an avid fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cleveland Browns. Politically, he opposed the "45."
Surviving are his caring wife of 20 years, Jennifer; Stepsons Chris (Amanda) Baker and Kevin Baker; Daughters Trish Hernandez; Angie (Rich) Easterday and Peggy (Jason) Roth; 7 grandchildren; Brothers Joe Scalzo and Ray (Becky) Scalzo; Sisters Cheryl Hipple, Anna (Tom) Dies, and Kathy (Rick) Harbaugh; Ex-wife Margaret (Cliff) Trudell.
Preceding him in death are his parents, John and Christina (Lasko) Scalzo Sr.; Brother Louis Scalzo; Sister Margie Ann Scalzo, and Brother-in-law James "Jim" Hipple.
A memorial gathering will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Road, Akron, Ohio 44305 on Sunday September 17, 2017 from 12pm - 2pm. John will be laid to rest at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, Ohio at a later date.
