Helen Scherer, 91, went home to be with the Lord on December 29, 2017 surrounded by her family and friends. She was born November 18, 1926 in Akron, Ohio to late parents, Thomas Abel and Annie Laurie Shircliff.
After working many years at the Ohio Edison Plant between Akron and Cuyahoga Falls, Helen became a breeder of Shetland Sheepdogs. She was a twenty five year member of the American Shetland Sheepdog Association. She was well known for quality "shelties" in this part of the country. Helen loved to read and learn. She studied English at the University of Akron and designed and built two of her own homes. Helen had a beautiful voice and loved to sing, and in her high school years acted in plays. Her other interests included bird-watching, growing and arranging flowers, and growing organic vegetables. Up until her last days, she was an avid reader and scrabble player. Her last years were spent at Mulberry Gardens Assisted Living which she called "home."
Helen is survived by her sisters, Ann (Shircliff) Graham and Caroline Shircliff; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Edmund Scherer; brothers, Bill and Tommy Shircliff; sister, Julie (Shircliff) Pramuka.
