Stephen W. Jones

October 8, 1951 — June 15, 2018

Stephen W. Jones transitioned to his Heavenly home on June 15, 2018. He was born in Akron, Ohio on October 8, 1951 to Doston B. Jones, Sr. and Stella R. Jones. The third of five children, Stephen grew up in Goodyear Heights, graduated from Hower Vocational High School through their drafting/engineering program and obtained an Associate Degree in business from Buckeye College. He also served in the Army, was a member of the funk/jazz band "Toejam", and played guitar for many years at The House of the Lord.

Stephen was preceded in death by his dad, Doston B. Jones, Sr.; brother, Keith Jones; and sister, Gail Fitzgerald.

Steve accepted Christ as a young man and genuinely loved and worshipped Him by rising at 4am every morning to pray and study the Word of God. He was the facilitator of Bible study every Saturday at his parent's home for many years. He loved to speak of the things of God and wanted his very life to reek of the presence of God. In a culture of confusion he wanted the clarity of the Truth to invade the beings of his children. He was a member of Day Spring Family Church in North Canton where he served for many years. Besides the Lord and his family, Steve loved the guitar. After receiving a Christmas gift from his parents when he was 12, he could always be found "chilling" with his beloved guitar and driving the rest of the household insane with playing a particular song over & over again until he got it. Later, his love of music would lead him to compose many songs of his love of his Lord. It was all consuming and he so looked forward to retirement from Community Support Services, where he was employed for 15 years, so that he could concentrate on his music.

But illness overtook him as he retired and he prayed for a healing miracle. And now he is truly healed in the presence of his beloved Lord and Savior, Jesus the Christ.

Steve will be greatly missed by his mother, Stella R. Jones; wife, Alexandria; aunts, Mittie Walker and Sandra Long; special uncle, James D. Noel; daughters, Alaqua and Angelique and son, Gyasi, all of whom he had unique relationships. He was a special step-father to Meleah and Matthew Kinlow. He also leaves sister, Sharon Greene; brother, Doston B. (Lisa) Jones, Jr.; nieces, April Greene, Geeya (Ornette) Gibson, Jasmine Jones, Kayla Fitzgerald; nephews, Anthony (Monica) Frederick, Phillip Greene, Glenn Parker, Jr., Doston B. (Shante) Jones III; and a host of cousins, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, and special friends Phelvaree (Smitty) Smith, Pastor Brian Williams, Darrell Hill, and William Richardson.
