John Ray Clayton went home to be with the Lord on June 25, 2018 in Akron, Ohio. He was 77 years young. John was born in Brasstown, North Carolina on September 10, 1940 and attended Hayesville High School. He served in the Army from 1960-1962. John married the love of his life Pamela J. West on October 21, 1972 and spent 45 loving years together. He spent 38 years at Goodyear and retired in 1999. Many days, you could find John outdoors hunting or enjoying his cabin. He also enjoyed traveling and selling at craft shows. John served faithfully at Millheim Baptist Church.
John was preceded in death by his parents, James and Jewel Clayton (Brasstown, North Carolina). He is survived by his spouse, Pamela J. Clayton (Akron, Ohio); children: Jeff Clayton (Akron, Ohio), Vanessa (Ryan) Flinn (North Canton, Ohio); grandchildren, Clayton and Crosby Flinn (North Canton, Ohio); brother: James Rex (Shirley) Clayton (Zephyrhills, Florida); sister, Tommie Lou Chitty (Shreveport, Louisiana); brother-in-law: Randy (Carolyn) West (Sophia, NC); special friend: Ron Anderson and family (Akron, Ohio); and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 4:00pm to 5:30pm on Monday, July 2, 2018 at Millheim Baptist Church, 2661 Hayne Road, Akron, Ohio 44312. Funeral service to follow. Interment at Woods Cemetery, 3170 Edison Street NW, Uniontown, Ohio 44685, will take place at 10:30am on Tuesday, July 3. 2018. A special thanks to all friends, John's Church Family, and Pastor Lawrence. Also, a special thanks to Dr. Joel Porter, Dr. Joseph Koenig and his team for their care and support. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to American Cancer Society in John's honor.
