Clarence "Rusty" Collins Jr. , son of the late Clarence Collins Sr, and Johnnie Mae Collins, was born Dec. 23, 1933 in Akron, Ohio. Upon graduating North High School, he spent one year in college before joining the Air Force in 1953 where he trained and supervised Air Traffic Controllers. He had a distinguished career in the Air Force receiving both the National Defense Service Metal and a Good Conduct Medal. He married the love of his life, Willie V. "Kitty" Salter while serving four years in the Korean War and raising three children.
After leaving the military he worked for Firestone Tire and Rubber for 28 years and USPS for 17 years. An avid outdoorsman, he started his own business, All-American Antenna in the early 1970s. Upon retirement he worked at K Mart and Walmart. Education was important to Clarence. He finished his bachelor's degree in business from the University of Akron on June 10, 1973. He loved spending time with family and friends and was loved by everyone.
He was preceded in death by siblings, Gerald Collins, Dee Dee Nolan, and Dottie Taylor. He leaves to cherish his memory, wife of 64 years "Kitty", son, Terrence (Mary) Collins, daughters, Cheryl (Hogan) Obong, and Denita Renee (Robert) Crozier, sister-in-law Ann Ford, a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. We would like to give a special mention and thanks to his niece the Hon. Teresa (Alan) Johnson as well as Greenfield Estates Nursing Facility.
