James B. Jones, Jr. went home to be with the Lord on April 7, 2020 after a brief illness. Preceded in death by parents, James, Sr. and Barbara (Bittner) Jones, he is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Carol; children, Michael, Kara (Matt) Pickelsimer, Jeremy (Jeannette) Brown; grandchildren, Austin, Madison, Jeremy, Jr., Rebecca, Dennis James; beloved aunt, Shirley Duncan; brother, Bill (Michele) and family; brother in-law, H. Douglas (Kathy) Shaffer; sister in-law, Mae Cooper; beloved nephew, Aaron Shaffer; niece, Toni Bowen; many cousins and friends.
Jim was a 1973 graduate of Garfield High School and he retired from the City of Akron with 32 years of service. During his final five years there he was also union president of Local 1360. Jim also worked the past 10 years doing security at Babcock & Wilcox in Barberton. He was a member of The Chapel and in past years he was involved with the Furnace Street Mission/Victim Assistance.
A Celebration of Jim's Life will take place Saturday, June 12, 2021 at 2 p.m. at Newcomer, Akron Chapel, 131 N. Canton Rd. Family and friends are invited to visit for two hours prior to the service from 12 noon to 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Jim's name to The Chapel in Marlboro, 8700 Edison Street NE, Louisville, Ohio 44641.
