Janet Louise Melton

Janet Louise Melton, 80, of Rootstown, passed away peacefully on January 4, 2023. She was born on April 5, 1942 in Columbia, South Carolina to the late Stanley and Georgie Watts. In her youth, she moved to Akron with her family and eventually met and married Jesse Ray Melton. Together they raised their family of three sons and ran Universal Plating Inc. in Akron for over 50 years.
In her free time, Janet was an avid reader and also enjoyed shopping, gardening, and spoiling the farm cats. She was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother and will be truly missed by everyone who knew her.
In addition to her parents, Janet was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Ray Melton Sr.; sons, Jesse Ray Melton Jr. and James Brent Melton; and sister, Linda Clements.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey Wade and Eileen Melton; granddaughter, Whitney Gail and Israel Merkle; sister, Tina and Carl Mace; brothers, Ricky and Jan Watts and Danny Watts.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 12, 2023 from 4-7 p.m. at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron, where funeral services will be held on Friday at 10:00 a.m. Interment at East Liberty Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, www.diabetes.org.
