Walter J. Kurtz, Sr.
Walter J. Kurtz, Sr., 88, joined the Heavenly Choir on May 31, 2009 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II having served in Cairo, Egypt, Africa and Casablanca. Walter retired from Acme after 41 years of service as a meat manager/cutter. He was a member of the Harmony Baptist Church of Tallmadge where he loved to sing and worship. Preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; parents, Milton, Sr., and Della (Young) Kurtz; son, Walter J. Kurtz, Jr.; brothers, Elmer and Ralph; and sisters, Hazel, Grace and Phyllis. Walter is survived by his sons, Loren (Karen), Joe (Penny) and David; daughters, Carol Foster, Sherry (Bruce) Foster, Connie (Dudley) Harrington, Bonnie Hoover and daughter-in-law, Joyce Kurtz; brothers, Milton, Jr. (Phyllis) and Cletus (Frances); sisters, Betty (Earl) Kline, Helen Burley and Edna Reed; 24 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and very Special friend, Wanda Valenti. Calling hours will be Wednesday, June 3, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron, where the Mogadore VFW Post #8487 will conduct a final salute at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be Thursday, June 4, at Harmony Baptist Church of Tallmadge at 11 a.m. with a visitation one hour prior.
