James V. Mondello, Jr.
James V. Mondello, Jr., 64, passed away May 11, 2010 surrounded by his loving family. A life long resident of the Akron area, he served in the U.S. Army, and retired from Goodyear Tire & Rubber after 40 years of service. James was an avid fisherman, hunter, and loved to work in his garden. James is preceded in death by his parents, Rose and James Mondello, Sr.; step-mother, Felicia Mondello; brother, Phil Mondello; and sister, Connie McDonald. He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Beverly; daughter, Melody (Benny) Lovelace of Ellenborough, NC; sons, Mark (Tracy) Mondello of Maple Hts., OH, and Matthew Mondello of Green, OH; grandchildren, PFC Cory Shaver, Caitlin "Abbey" Lovelace, and Caleb Mondello; sisters, Rose Young of Boca Raton, FL, and Mary Frye of Akron, OH; and many other loving family and friends. James' generous nature and witty sense of humor will be greatly missed by all who knew him. The family would like to thank the staff at Akron City Hospital's Critical Care Unit for their loving care of James. Calling hours will be held Sunday, May 16, from 2 to 6 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron, where a funeral service will be held Monday, May 17, at 11 am with Pastor Dave Hohlbaugh officiating. Interment at Hillside Memorial Burial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in James' name to either the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association.
