John C. Laney
John C. Laney, 85, of Akron, passed away on August 15, 2012. John was born in Akron on March 16, 1927 to the late Joseph and Mary Laney. John proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and worked for both Goodyear Aerospace and Terex. He also owned several gas stations. John was a member of the Mogadore Moose, Mogadore VFW, Eagles 555, and the Italian Club. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and country dancing. He was a talented craftsman and loved to tinker.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his wife and the love of his life, Geraldine; daughter, Carol Ann Dickson; brothers, Raymond and Gene Laney; and sisters, Dorothy and Marion Burgess. He will be deeply missed by his children, John R. (Elaine) Laney, Linda Williams, and Denise (Brian) Lutz; sister, June (Mac) Macaluso; brother, Paul Laney; grandchildren, Jon and Shanan Williams, Shawn Evanchek, Joshua (Denielle) Lutz, Darlene (Todd) Moody, John R. Laney II, Denise (Dale) Finch, and Bradley Dickson; great-grandchildren, Christopher and Jeffrey Williams, Shane and Tristan Williams, Maddox Lutz, Megan, Morgan, and Robert Moody, Zachary and Kayla Laney, and Cory Finch.
Cremation has taken place and a private graveside service will be held for John's family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
