Eugene H. "Gene" Stoner, 84, resident of Akron, formerly of Green, passed away on Saturday, November 17, 2012. He was born on January 8, 1928 in Fayette County, PA to the late Charles E. and Leu H. Stoner. Gene married the late Gladys M. Bates on June 18, 1949 in Waynesburg, PA. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was a member at Temple Baptist Church in Green. Gene was also a former member of the Masonic Lodge in Akron and retired from the Ford Motor Company plant in Walton Hills. He loved woodworking and had a fondness for building porch swings and birdhouses.
Preceded in death by his parents; wife of 62 years; sisters, Lucy, Maryleu, and Eva; brothers, Harry "Evans", Holmes, and Arthur. Survived by his children, LeuAnna Taylor of Akron and Eugene "Chuck" Stoner of Elk, WA; 5 grandchildren, Shelley (Allen), Shaun (Kelly), Samantha, Jesse, and Casey; great grandchildren, Kayla, Cassandra, Nathan, Nick, Hayden, Brady, and Hailey; great-great grandchildren, Austin and Douglas; siblings, Freddie (Esther), Chuck (Sophia), and Mildred (Art).
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 24, 2012 at Temple Baptist Church, 1212 Greensburg Rd, Green, OH 44232. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the church. Newcomer Funeral Home in Akron serving the family.
