Dodi S. Meade returned to the Colorado mountains she so loved on November 12, 2013, to be with God, her husband of fifty-nine years, Claude Y. Meade, her sons David and Jeffrey, and her sisters Marge Hartvigsen and Molly Grund.
Mrs. Meade was a long-time Akron resident and well-known patron of the Akron Performing Arts community who touched many lives. A consummate volunteer, she was an Akron Symphony Orchestra Advisory Trustee, past-President of the Akron University Faculty Woman's Club, past-President of the Tuesday Musical Society Executive Board, past-President of the Bath Home tour, founder/past-President of the Portage Lakes Home tour, Life member of the PTA, and past-Chair of the Stan Hywet Hall Madrigal Dinners and Ohio Mart. She also donated blood for more than fifty years.
In her youth, Dodi was a member of the National Ski Patrol and a junior member of the Colorado Mountain Club who climbed over half of Colorado's famed 14ers. She backpacked remote mountain ranges in California, Colorado, Wyoming, and Montana and canoed rugged waters in Northern Ontario, Canada. She and her husband traveled extensively throughout North America, Europe and Russia.
Dodi will be remembered for her infectious smile, quick wit, sharp mind, competitive gamesmanship, and imaginative, theme-based soirees with family and friends. Her photographic prowess earned her the nickname, "Madame Click-Click".
She is survived by her son, Denis, his wife Yolanda, and her four grandchildren, Alexander, Mariah, Aleah, and Connor of Colorado, and many nieces and nephews. Although she will be greatly missed, her family and friends know she is safely embraced in God's loving arms as she and her husband plan their next adventure.
A celebration of her life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 4, 2014 at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1250 W. Exchange St, Akron, Ohio 44313 with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Akron Symphony Orchestra or Tuesday Musical Society.
