James Hurley, 69, passed away March 14th, 2014, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born June 28th, 1944, in Phelps, KY. Jim was a member of St. Matthew Parish in Akron. He retired after 32 years of service from Teamsters Local 24 and was most recently employed with Akron Summit County Public Library.
Jim was a skilled craftsman and enjoyed collecting and rebuilding old motorcycles and cars. He also enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family.
Preceded in death by his parents, William and Easter Hurley and sister, Lena Bell. Jim leaves behind his loving wife of 27 years, Kim Hurley; daughters, Sheryl (Michael) Eberhart, Stacey (Brian) Clark and Krystal Allen; granddaughters, Taylor, Carley, and Landry; brothers, Billy (Delores) Hurley, Jerry Hurley, and Kera (Sue) Hurley; sister, Joyce (Jerry) Layne; mother-in-law, Helen Fegal; brother and sister-in-law, Rob Eckroad and Karen Fegal; many nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family would like to thank the staff on the 5200 wing at Akron General Hospital for all of their care, love, and support.
The family will receive friends from 5pm to 8pm on Monday, March 17, 2014 at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd, Akron, OH 44305. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 am on Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at St. Matthew Church, 2580 Berne St, Akron, OH 44312.
