George B. Willoughby, 77, passed away May 10, 2014. He was born in Akron on July 8, 1936 to the late Cecil and Rhoda Willoughby.
George retired from the Akron Fire Department after 37 years of service and was the owner of the Manchester Garden Center for over 30 years. He was a member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Barberton. In his free time, George enjoyed boating, fishing, and camping. He also loved gambling and playing cards.
In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his brothers, Howard and Ralph Willoughby. He will be deeply missed by his wife, Marcella Willoughby; children, Jim Willoughby, Linda Griffith, and Don (Tammy) Willoughby; grandchildren, Matthew, Casey (Jessica), Ryan, Dusty, Jon-Michael, Tatum, Austin, and Bailey; brother, Thomas Willoughby; sister, Margaret Herman; son-in-law, Jon Griffith; daughter-in-law, Paula Willoughby; many nieces and nephews. He also leaves his lifetime friend and caregiver, Debbie Haggerty.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 15, 2014 from 4-8 p.m. with a Last Alarm service at 7:30 p.m. at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron. A memorial service will be held on Friday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Andrew Episcopal Church, 591 W. Hopocan Ave., Barberton OH 44203.
