Alice Esther (Paulus) Smith, born January 18, 1924, entered into her eternal rest July 20, 2009, surrounded by members of her family gathered in prayer.
Alice grew up in Suffield, Ohio, daughter of Joseph and Veronica Paulus, attending St. Joseph Catholic Church and Suffield High School. On June 24, 1944, she married Clement C. Smith who survives. Also surviving are five children: Elaine (Jerry) Klein, Bill (Peggy Darmstadt) Smith, Joe (Dave Eicher) Smith, Rose Ann (Tim) Bennett, and Lori (Joe) Mlakar; nine grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren. Two infant children (Danny and Rita) and one great grandchild (Arianna) preceeded Alice in death, along with three brothers and six sisters.
Alice's life was one of deep commitment to God through the Catholic Church's devotions and prayers, especially the Rosary and the Divine Mercy Chaplet, the Legion of Mary, Knights of Columbus Auxiliary, the Women's Guild, and the activities of St. Matthew's Church in Akron, Ohio. Her joy was her family's life and she loved to gather with them, always ready for a party and games, often followed by prayer.
On June 14, 2005, she moved with Clem into the capable and loving care of her youngest daughter's home in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Final arrangements and burial are being handled through Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Road, Akron, Ohio 44305.
