Allie Dolores White
Allie Dolores White (nee Full) passed away July 11, 2008 at her home in Akron. Born in Reedy, West Virginia on November 5, 1931, she moved with her parents as a child to Akron where she attended and graduated from Central High School. Following a brief stint at the University of Akron, she became a draftsman for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company. In 1950 she married Verdis White of Calhoun County, West Virginia. She was very active in the PTA of her children's schools and in the United Methodist Church which was a life long calling for her. More recently she was the District Director of its Lay Speaking Ministry and their resident Bible history resource for the district Lay Speakers. She was known for her ability to explain Bible in historical context so one understood historical background of the verses. Her love of history and education led to her returning to college after her children were grown and she earned a B.A. and an M.A. in history from the University of Akron when she was in her fifties. Through the church she became involved as a volunteer braillist. Her proficiency reached the highest levels so she could transcribe mathematics, the sciences and foreign languages. She became a professional braillist working for the Akron and Canton school districts and freelancing for out-of-state schools. Mrs. White is survived by her husband, Verdis, son Eugene (Gene) and his wife, Ellen, and their son Aryeh, and her younger son, Jerry, his wife Pat, their twin daughters, Jessica and Melissa, her brother -in-law Glenn McHenry, her nephew Glenn (Buzz) McHenry and his wife Laura, and her niece Cindy Hostetler. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Frankie Full and her sister Martha June McHenry (nee Full). Funeral services will take place 2 P.M. Friday at the Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N Canton Rd., Akron with the Rev. Barry French officiating. Family and friends may call on Friday from NOON until the time of the service.
