Alvera graduated from Ellet High School in 1947. She was a member of Ellet Grace Brethren Church. She married the love of her life Glen on May 23 1948. They met at Chestnut Ridge Dairy in Ellet when she was working there in 1948. They celebrated 67 years of marriage this year. She loved Glen with all her heart and he was her devoted husband all the days of her life. Rare was a time that you did not see them holding hands. He would move the world for her if he could. Together they loved their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, and spent their lives being the most loving and hardworking example to them that any family could wish for.
Mom worked off and on all of her adult life, but most people know her well from her 30 years at Revco/CVS on Darrow Rd. in Ellet. She helped stock the shelves when they opened and was the one to lock the door when they closed and she retired in 2000. Her customers loved her and while she was still going out, she was still running in to people who knew her from there. She made friends with all her coworkers and was especially close with Bill Griffiths, Annie, and Jenny.
Mom loved to shop, travel and spend time with her family. Together they traveled most summers for many years. They visited many states and always had wonderful times. Many of the trips were to New Mexico to family reunions and to visit Glen's aunts and uncles. She was the best personal shopper anyone could have. And she loved nothing more than buying her family birthday and Christmas gifts. Christmas was her favorite time and she would make her list for each person making sure she found everyone just what they were wanting.
To say her family will miss her is modest at the least. Our hearts are breaking, but we will all be forever blessed to have had her for all of these years. Funeral service will be held on Saturday September 19,2015 at 12 noon. Family will receive friends from 11-12pm. Interment Hillside Memorial Park.
