Alvin James DePrato Sr.
Alvin James DePrato Sr., 87, of Akron, passed away November 23, 2011. Alvin was born November 24, 1923 in Youngstown, OH. He proudly served in the U.S. Army for three years during World War II. After his military service, Alvin married his wife Margaret and they were married for 65 years until her death in January. Alvin was a heavy equipment operator with the Ohio Operating Engineers. He started the Springfield Police Department along with four other officers. Alvin was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret; father, Richard; mother and stepfather, Ruby and Fred Musslewhite. He will be deeply missed by his children, Robert (Donna), Margie (Rodney) Sands, Linda (Robert) Humble, Diane Monroe, and Alvin Jr. (Laurie); sister, Betty Lou James; thirteen grandchildren; and eighteen great-grandchildren. Family and friends may call on Thursday December 1 from 5-8 p.m. at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., where funeral services will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. Interment at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
