Alys P. DeMattia

June 26, 1964 — December 20, 2024

Alys Piper DeMattia, a beacon of kindness and warmth, left this world on December 20, 2024, at the age of 60. Born on June 26, 1964, Alys touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her, leaving behind a legacy of compassion and generosity that will forever be cherished.

An alumna of Olney Friends School, Alys carried with her the values of service and community, which she showed through a life dedicated to helping others. Her unforgettable kitchen became a gathering place for friends and family where her cooking was an opportunity to express her love and no one left hungry.

Her spirit was adventurous, forever curious about the world around her. Whether she was exploring the great outdoors or reading a book. Her love for exploring and adventure led Alys to being an amazing story teller and making the people around her smile and laugh. She had a deep love for animals, Alys formed connections with her furry companions, finding joy in their unspoken loyalty and affection.

Alys was known for her beautiful flower garden, a vibrant reflection of her personality and a gift for all to enjoy the beauty around them. She could be found enjoying the garden from her favorite spot, her deck, which was home to many parties and gatherings that were filled with joy and laughter.

With a heart full of love and a spirit ready to explore the unknown, Alys P. DeMattia’s life was a testament to the power of kindness. Her memories will forever remain a source of comfort to those she touched. Alys will be deeply missed, but her warmth and light will continue to shine brightly in our hearts.

She was preceded in death by her parents Robert Henning and Caroline Arnold.

Alys is survived by her loving husband of 30 years, Bill DeMattia; brother Seth Henning; step-father Brian Stenfors; niece Sara Henning; cousin Heather Henderson; her four-legged companions; her cat Tink and dog Dingo; and many other relatives and friends.

Per her wishes cremation will take place and a celebration of life will take place in the spring.
