Amos M. Gibson passed away on February 19, 2023 at the age of 67. He was born in Akron, Ohio on June 20, 1955 to the late Richard and Phyllis Gibson. Amos served his country in the United States Coast Guard in 1979. He enjoyed playing Bid Whist. Amos was heavily involved in the North Side community and was an assistant coach for peewee football at Elizabeth Park and Bantams Football Team. He would often volunteer with different Alcoholic Anonymous groups and was sober for over 35 years. Amos spent his entire career as a truck driver. His laugh could be heard a block away and his smile was infectious. He was one of a kind and will be deeply missed.
In addition to his parents, Amos is preceded in death by his sister, Shiphrah Honaker; and brothers, Duane and Phillip Allen Gibson.
Left to cherish his memory is his brother, Richard "Peter" (Beverly) Gibson Jr.; sister, Theresa Gibson of Arlington, VA; sister-in-law, Lisa Gibson of Virginia Beach, VA; fiance, Marvinus "Precious" Kirkland; Marvinus' children, Nicole, Teaira, Brandon, Tynaya and Javarea Kirkland; and many other nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation will be held at Second Baptist Church, 690 S. Main St. Akron, Ohio 44311, Friday, March 3rd, 2023 from 10-11:00am with a funeral ceremony to follow at 11:00am with Dr. Roderick C. Pounds Sr. reading the eulogy and Rev. Jaland Finney officiating.
Interment will take place at Glendale Cemetery.
