Annie M. Canterbury, age 69 of Akron, Ohio, took her father's hand in Heaven on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at Western Reserve Health Care Center in Cuyahoga Falls.
She was born on July 13, 1948 in Charleston, WV, the daughter of Marie (nee Nichols) Smith of Fayetteville, NC and the late John B. Smith, Sr.
Annie was a 1967 graduate of Walton High School in Spencer, WV and a 1971 graduate of Glenville State University in Glenville, WV. She earned a Bachelors Degree in Education and she taught grade school. She enjoyed reading, but her greatest joy was being with her family, especially her grandchildren. She had a great affection for their dog, Cody.
In addition to her mother, other survivors include her loving husband, Charles "Chuck" C. Canterbury, Jr., whom she married on July 31, 1971; her children, Christopher (Lori Tassis) Canterbury, Jonathan (Jenifer King) Canterbury, and Jamie (Benjamin) Kinney; her grandchildren, Devin, Bryan, Cecelia, Joseph, Nathan, Kaitlyn, Braden, Gabriella, and Gavin; her siblings, John B. (Carol) Smith, Jr., Terrance (Jan) Smith, Michael Smith, and Sondra (Brooke) Tannehill; and several nieces and nephews survive.
Other than her father, Annie was preceded in death by her brother, Timothy Smith.
Funeral services will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 North Canton Road, Akron, on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at 4:00 PM, where family and friends may gather to pay respects and celebrate her life from 2:00 - 4:00 PM.
Following all services Annie will be cremated and eventually will be laid to rest at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Rittman, Ohio.
