Arnold Lackey Jr., known to his friends as "Big A", passed away peacefully on March 18, 2023. He was born in Akron on April 26, 1952 to the late Arnold and Mayoma Lackey Sr. After graduating from Ellet High School, Arnold married Mary Lovern. He joined the United States Marine Corps and was stationed at Camp Lejeune. He served honorably and upon his discharge from the service, Arnold and Mary returned to Ohio and settled in Green to raise their family. Arnold began his career with Polysar in Barberton which eventually became Preferred Rubber and then Hexpol. He retired after 25 years of service. After retiring, he and his sister purchased the bar Susie's Place and operated it together for several years.
Arnold felt most at home when he was outdoors. He loved fishing, hunting, and wildlife. He was gifted at building and restoring things and always had a home project going.
His friends will always remember him for his fun loving personality and his generous spirit. His motto was: "I'm not here for a long time, I'm here for a good time." He will be truly missed by everyone who knew him.
In addition to his parents, Arnold was preceded in death by his former wife and the mother of his children, Mary (nee Lovern) Lackey; longtime companion, Jacqueline "Jackie" Lichtenberger; and sisters, Ginger "Susie" McCracken and Theresa Sebastiani.
He is survived by his children, Misty Lackey (Bennett Wilson), Joshua Lackey, and Justin Lackey; grandson, Tylar Lackey; sister, Loretta McCune; and numerous other relatives and friends including special nephew, Guy Sebastiani; Angie (Jason) Horton and family, along with longtime friends, Jeff and Michelle Wittman, John Eblon, Frankie Butera, former co-workers from Preferred Rubber, and all his pals from Susie's Place, KC's Lounge, and other local gathering places.
Arnold will be laid to rest with military honors at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, 10175 Rawiga Rd., Seville, Ohio 44273, on Friday, June 30, 2023 at 1:15 p.m. Those who wish to join the funeral procession to the cemetery may meet at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron, Ohio 44305 at 11:45 a.m.
