Aubrey Austin Tyner, Jr., "Sonny or Red", died March 11, 2021 surrounded by his family.
Aubrey would have been 91 years old on April 13. He was born in Akron, Ohio in 1930 to the late Aubrey Austin and Alma (nee Timms) Tyner Sr.
Aubrey was raised in Copley and graduated from Copley High School in 1949. He was in the USMC from 1950-1954, serving during the Korean War. After his honorable discharge as a sergeant from the Corps, he worked at Mechanical Mold and Machine for 28 years, moving to GSA after the shop went bankrupt in 1982. Aubrey retired from GSA in 1993 and enjoyed many years of retirement.
Aubrey was an avid square dancer. He and his wife traveled to the Rio Grande Valley in Texas every winter for 16 years to dance and enjoy the warmer weather.
Mr. Tyner was preceded in death by his son, Michael David Tyner; his sisters, Donna (Nick) Fotin, Cathy Karam and Charlotte Clair.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, the former Patricia Pitts, his wife of 68 years, whom he married on November 1, 1952; his son, Jeffrey Alan (Kris) Tyner; his grandchildren, Shannon Marie (Brian) Galambos, Jeffrey Scott (Kayla) Tyner and Bradley Gibson (Rebecca) Tyner; his great-grandchildren, Mason and Kameron; his sister, Judy (Steve) Avellino; his wife's sister, Teresa (Timothy) Lance; his brothers-in-law, James Karam and Wayne Clair; and several nieces and nephews.
Due to the pandemic, private burial services will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home, Akron, Ohio.
Mr. Tyner will be buried at Hillside Memorial Park, Akron.
