Barbara J. Edwards, 88, passed away on January 19, 2019.
Born on February 3, 1930 in Akron, Barbara graduated from East High School prior to enlisting in the U.S. Air Force.
She met her husband, Bill, while they were both stationed at Travis AFB in Fairfield, California. After Bills' death in an aircraft accident in 1961, she returned to Akron where she raised her son and daughter and touched the lives of an untold number of children through 40 years of volunteer service to the Akron Public School System and Glover Elementary School. Barbara was the recipient of multiple community service awards for her contributions to Glover Elementary and the students and teachers whose lives she touched.
Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Ray, Sr.; parents, James and Marjorie; and sister, Stella. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Billy Ray, Jr. and Karen Edwards; daughter, Jennifer; grandson, David; beloved niece and nephew, Leslie and Robert; and special friends Gary, Jason and Jeannie.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7p.m. on Monday, January 28 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron.
Funeral service on Tuesday, January 29 at 11 a.m. Interment at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery to follow.
