Barbara Louise Yukie, 83, of Akron, passed away on April 10, 2023. She was born on April 5, 1940 to the late Eugene and Dorothy {Sible} Kelly.
In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Mike Yukie.
Barbara is survived by her loving daughters Angie (Keith) Nice and Yvonne Shallahamer; granddaughters, Kayla (Tyler) Pastor, Maddi Johnson, Jason (Kim) Shallahamer and Tanya (Steve) Carden; great-grandchildren Ava Shallahamer and Kara Carden; siblings Dorothy (Homer) Clark and Charlie (Nancy) Kelly; grandpuppies Simba (her favorite), Marley and Louie; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Barbara worked as church secretary for over 30 years for Arlington Church of the Nazarene, where she was a longtime member. She and Mike fostered children in the early '70s, and her love of raising and spoiling them carried over to her grandkids. Her home was always open to the children that came into her life, and her gentle, fair, and always kind nature helped raise dozens of them over the years.
Barbara was known for her stubborn streak, and her impressive collection of plastic bags. She loved watching her "programs" on television, and God help you if you called while she was watching her Cleveland Indians. Barbara held many titles over the years, but her favorites were "Mamaw" and "Monker."
Visitation will be held Thursday, April 13 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd. Akron, OH 44305.
