Beechie M (Harless) Simmons
Beechie M (Harless) Simmons, 80 years old, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 22, 2006 after an extended illness. She was born in Van Lear, Kentucky and came to Akron when she was one year old. She graduated from South High School in 1944 and retired from K-Mart in 1988. She enjoyed performing as a Minnie Pearl impersonator during her retirement, appearing in more than 375 engagements all over the Northeast Ohio area. Preceded in death by her parents, Elsie and Lacy Harless; her son Thomas Jefferson (T.J.) Hagerman Jr.; sisters Mabel Akers and Vivian McGarvey; brothers Lacy Jr. and Thomas Harless. She is survived by her husband Gerald Simmons of Akron; daughters Linda (Ralph) DiGiulio of Canton, Euna (Art) Hetrick of Akron, Pam (Walt) Pirogowicz of Mogadore; daughter-in-law Ruth Ann Hagerman of Mogadore; grandchildren Nicole and Nick Hetrick, Doc and Zack Daugherty, Bruce Hagerman; sisters-in-law Pauline and Helen Harless. Many thanks to her much loved "adopted" daughters and her many devoted nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who called and visited her faithfully. A special thank you to her granddaughter Nicole Hetrick for the loving care she gave her the past year, to the devoted staff of Maison Aine Nursing Home and to the staff of the coronary care unit of Akron City Hospital for their care and kindness during her last days. Nephew Dick Akers will give the eulogy and Pastor O.L. Henderson will officiate. Calling hours from 4 - 8 on Monday July 24 and memorial service at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 25 at the Newcomer Funeral Home 131 Canton Road Akron. burial at Hillside Memorial Park in Akron.
