The family of Bernice Louise Raber was saddened on Monday, May 21, 2012, by the death of their caring wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Bernice was born in Akron, April 5, 1929, the daughter of Clyde and Dora Wolverton and was the youngest of nine children. She grew up in the Akron area and attended East High School.
Bernie is survived by her husband of 51 years, John I. Raber; children, Rev. Dennis (Ruth) Metzger, Cathie (Doug) Fink, Tami (Jeff) Custer, John I. Raber II; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
Bernie enjoyed being the family event planner, baker, sewer, painter, unbeaten scrabble player, coveted rook and euchre partner, a great cook, member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She had been a member at the Arlington Memorial Baptist Church, Akron. The family rejoices in the grace that brought her safely into the arms of her Savior and Lord.
Calling hours for Bernie and John will be on Wednesday, May 23, from 5-8 PM and Thursday, May 24, from 11:30 – 12:30 at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., where funeral services will follow at 12:30 with Rev. Dennis Metzger officiating. Interment at Hillside Memorial Park.
