Bertha E. Smith, 103, went home to be with the Lord on December 21, 2005. She was born January 19, 1902 in Alliance, Ohio to the late Ecker David & Jemima Augusta (Wirebaugh) Obney. Bertha was a faithful member of Ernest Angley's Grace Cathedral for 49 years where she volunteered much of her time to the work of the Lord, including over 20 years on the prayer counseling line. She was the great-grandmother to Rev. Christopher Machamer, Associate Pastor at Ernest Angley's Grace Cathedral. Bertha dearly loved the Lord and her family and friends, always cheerful, strong in her Jesus Blood Faith and longsuffering. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by all of her brothers and sisters; husband, Earl Thomas Smith; sons, Glenn T. Smith and Kenneth H. Smith and wife, Gertrude Smith; sons-in-law, Verlee B. Machamer and John R. Bowman; grandson, Richard A. Smith. She is survived by her daughters, Dorine E. Machamer of Uniontown OH, Mary L. Bowman of San Antonio TX; son, Donald R. Smith and his wife, Joann of Lake Placid FL; daughter-in-law, Susanna Smith of Columbus OH; 21 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 6 - 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 11 a.m. - 12 p.m. at Ernest Angley's Grace Cathedral where funeral services will begin at 12:00 p.m. Wednesday. Interment will follow at Marlboro Cemetery, Marlboro Township. Memorials may be made in memory of Bertha E. Smith to Bibles for Africa, Ernest Angley Ministries, PO Box 1790, Akron OH 44309.
