It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Beth Trevathan Britton, a beloved wife, devoted mother, cherished daughter, and adored sister. Beth, aged 57, left us on March 12, 2024, surrounded by her loving family, after a brave battle with cancer.
Beth was born on December 2, 1966 to her proud parents, Beverly E. Trevathan and the late Robert E. Trevathan. Born and raised in Akron, Beth earned her high school diploma from North High School. Beth went on to achieve a bachelor's and master's degree from the University of Akron and a second master's degree at Kent State University, dedicating herself to the study of school and community counseling. As founder and owner of Britton Counseling, Beth supported more than one thousand clients through grief and loss, specializing in treating postpartum depression. As she wrote several years ago, "Upon finding out that I am a counselor, people usually say to me, 'I could never listen to people's problems all day,' and my response is that I get to help people change their lives for the better every day. I have the best job in the world." She was well known for her warm heart, infectious laughter, and unwavering kindness. Beth's spirit touched the lives of everyone she encountered, leaving an indelible mark on the community she called home. Beth's nurturing spirit extended beyond her immediate family, as she also played a significant role in the lives of many, offering steadfast support.
Music was a mainstay of Beth's life, and one that she shared with her husband, Bill, and sons, Matthew and David. Together with her family, she sang at Church of Our Saviour in the parish choir for many years, sharing her sense of humor, love of life, and beautiful alto voice with her choir family. She also loved performing with Summit Choral Society. As well as gardening she enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and cuddling with her beloved dogs, Pippa and Gemma.
Beth's greatest joy in life was her family. She was a devoted mother to her two sons, Matthew and David Britton. Her love and guidance shaped them into the outstanding individuals they are today. Beth's radiant smile and comforting presence were not only felt within her family but also within the community. She was always eager to lend a helping hand to those in need, and her compassion will be remembered by all who were fortunate enough to cross paths with her.
She was preceded in death by her father, Robert E. "Bob" Trevathan.
Beth is survived by her loving husband of 33 years, Bill Britton; beloved sons, Matthew Britton and David Britton; loving mother, Beverly Trevathan; sister Becky (Anthony) Feora; nephews Ryan Feora and Evan Feora; she will be deeply missed by her extended family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched.
Funeral Service will be held 1:00pm Monday, March 18th, at Church of Our Saviour (471 Crosby St., Akron 44303) with The Rev. Debra Q. Bennett officiating.
May Beth's soul rest in eternal peace, and may her memory continue to inspire love and kindness in all our hearts.
In lieu of flowers the family kindly requests donations to the Human Rights Campaign, or the Arbor Day Foundation to plant a tree in her honor.
