Betty Jo {Florence} Bechter
Betty fought hard for many years, and peacefully passed away at home February 16th, 2023.
She was born October 20th, 1950 in Parkersburg, WV and at age 2 her family moved to Akron, OH. Betty graduated from Garfield High School 1968. She worked as a Graphic Arts Designer and her favorite job was at B&W Barberton.
Betty married Charles "Chuck" Bechter June 1971 in Barberton, OH. They were married for 51 years and lived in Wadsworth, OH, Broken Arrow, OK, Niles, MI, St. Mary's, OH, Centerville, OH, New Bremen, OH and retired to Athens, OH in 2011. She enjoyed the quiet and solitude of living on the ridge.
Betty was a loving mother to Matthew and Leanne. Over the years she showered them with unconditional love and enjoyed being a scout leader and being a chauffeur to various school and sporting events. She was always there with a helping hand, a listening ear, and unwavering support.
Betty had four grandchildren who she loved to visit, spend time with, and watch them grow. She always had a big smile on her face when she was with James Candido, Stella Jo, and Zoey Paige. Little Zetta preceded us all in death, but Betty always held her close to her heart.
Betty is survived by her husband Chuck, son Matthew, daughter Leanne (Paul Mueller) Bechter; 3 grandkids, sister Paula (Dave) Chase, and sisters-in-law Ruth Sisson, Hazel (Louie) Kroah, brothers-in-law Ray Allen and John Groves, and many loving nieces, nephews and their families. Betty had an extended close family of friends and always enjoyed entertaining. Betty was preceded in death by her parents Howard and Gena Kathryn {Somerville} Florence, and sister Debbie Groves.
Betty was fortunate to receive loving care from UC Hospital Cinci, Holzer Clinic Athens, OH, Ohio Health Hospice Athens, and Dayton Dental Collaborative Dayton. Thank you to Jagers & Sons Funeral Home Athens, OH and Newcomer Funeral Home Akron, OH for assisting the family through this process.
