Betty Jean Scalia "Doni"
Betty Jean Scalia, 88, of Akron, passed away June 6, 2013. She was born in Akron on December 23, 1924 to the late Clarence and Gladys Schill. During World War II, Betty worked at Goodyear inspecting gas masks. She was a loyal pen pal to many soldiers serving during the war. She was a past member of the Ellet Women's Club. During her last years as a resident at Altercare of Hartville, Betty enjoyed her role as activities calendar decorator.
She will be deeply missed by her daughters and son-in-law, Patty Scalia and Stan Knepper, Pam and Lloyd McVey; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Her family wishes to the thank the staff at Altercare of Hartville for all the wonderful care given to Betty.
Family and friends may call on Sunday June 9 from 5-8 p.m. at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron, where funeral services will be held Monday at 1:00 p.m. Interment at Hillside Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Haven of Rest.
