Betty Lou McGuire Magoun

Betty Lou Magoun of Akron, Ohio died peacefully Thursday morning October 28th, 2010 at Akron General Hospital with her family. Betty was born December 27, 1928 in Charleston, West Virginia to the late Thomas McGuire and Vesta Casto McGuire. She was preceded in death by her sister, Mary McGuire Fite and her grandson Isaac Price Magoun. Betty graduated from Parkersburg High School. She then attended Marshall University for one year before going to Trappenhagen Art School in New York City. There she studied many different mediums of art which are displayed in her lifetime of work. A brilliant and accomplished local artist, Betty worked with her art until she was in her mid seventies. Her wide variety of work has been shown and is owned by many collectors locally and nationally. She is survived by her husband George F. Magoun, her two sons, Thomas R. Magoun and George F. Magoun, her brother Lt. Col. Thomas W. McGuire, Jr. and his wife Bernice McGuire, her daughter-in-law, Malinda B. Magoun and granddaughter Denise Simone Magoun, her nephews Mark McGuire, Hunter Fite and nieces, Victoria Fite Akins and Karen Fite Morgan. The memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 4th, 2010. Family and friends are invited to congregate and celebrate Betty's life from 11-1 at Newcomer Funeral Home. Betty will be buried at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
