Betty M. (Davis) Kearns, 75, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, Oct. 1, 2011, after a two year heroic battle with lung cancer. She was born and raised in Garrett, PA, moved to Akron around the age of 16; where shortly after she met the love of her life. "Betts" was preceded in death by her mother, Elizabeth Kennell; beloved infant daughter, Mary Kearns; brothers and sisters: Fred, Dean, Ruth (Dick), Bill and Janet. Betty is survived by Jerry Sr., her adoring and devoted husband of 56 years. Loving children: Patricia Jones, Charlene (Tommy) Kapper, Kimberly (Rick) Mackey, Jerry Jr. (Danette), Shawn (Michelle) and Stephen. Siblings: Pauline, Charles, Ken (Helen) and James (Barbara). In-laws: Vivian, Hildegard, Donnie and Jeanette. Cherished grandchildren: Owen (Angie), Tonia (Rob), Krista (Adam), Melissa, Missy, Amy, Theresa, Tommy II, Carl, Nick, Karla, Brandon, Jerry, Kayla, Megan, Emily and Riley. Who, along with 16 great-grandchildren, were the center of her world. Long time friend: Jeanette Provence, extended daughter, Mary Krosnick and many extended family and friends. Betty was a caring foster mother to over 151 beautiful children and was a tireless volunteer of many years for the Summit County Board of Elections. She was dearly loved and will be missed by all who knew her. The family wishes to send a special thanks to Dr. M. Patel and his staff at Summit Oncology Associates and for the amazing care we received from Hospice of Summa. We received extraordinary care and the compassion shown by all, made her journey home peaceful. Calling hours will be held Tuesday, Oct. 4, from 5 to 8 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron, where a service will follow at 8 pm.
