Bill Ray Fritz, 77, of Brimfield, passed away on Wednesday, June 12th, 2024 at Select Specialty Hospital in Akron, Ohio. He was a devoted father, beloved husband, cherished grandfather, and a pillar of love and support for his family.
Bill was born on October 17th, 1946 to Leroy and Leitha Fritz in Barberton, Ohio. He married his high school sweetheart, Glenda (Stacy), on August 19th, 1967. He was a dedicated family man who adored his wife, daughter, and grandchildren with all his heart. He affectionately referred to his grandchildren as his “Pride and Joy” and they referred to him as "Big Papa". Bill had a quick wit, a lively sense of humor, and a soft spot for children and dogs. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to friends, family, or anyone in need.
He dedicated his life to his family, always prioritizing their happiness and well-being. Bill found immense joy in spending time with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed many hobbies including boating, camping, snowmobiling, attending car shows, going for drives in his Corvettes, hunting, fishing, and watching Cleveland sports teams. He was a 1965 graduate of Southeast High School and spent most of his career as a machinist at King Machine in Kenmore. He was a member of the United Steelworkers Union of America Local 1761, was a special deputy in Portage County, and a volunteer firefighter in Edinburg, Ohio. Bill also found fulfillment in driving school bus for students with special needs.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Glenda; his daughter, Valerie McQuain; his grandchildren, Mason and Hailey Ray McQuain; brothers, Gene Fritz and Gary (Annette) Fritz of Florida; sister, Darlene (Ed) Cupp of Clinton, Ohio; sister-in-law, Wanda Hamrick; brother-in-law, Doug Stacy, both of Salem, Ohio; and many nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Leroy and Leitha Fritz; sister, Peggy Murphy; and brother, Tim Fritz.
A funeral service to celebrate Bill’s life will be held on June 22nd, Saturday, at Newcomer Funeral Home in Akron, Ohio. Calling hours will be from 10 am-12 pm, with the funeral service following at 12 pm.
Interment will take place at Grandview Cemetery in Ravenna.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and staff at Cleveland Clinic/AGMC and Select Specialty Hospital in Akron for their exceptional care of Bill.
Bill’s kindness, love, and vibrant spirit will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His memory will forever live on in our hearts.
