Billie Young

March 5, 1930 — April 20, 2023

It with heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of Billie Young, 93, of Mogadore. He died peacefully with his daughter, Sandy by his side on April 20, 2023. His family and friends will hold dearly to the memories of his life well lived.

Bill was born on March 5, 1930 in Dyersburg, Tennessee to the late Daniel and Arletta (Keim) Young. He enlisted into the US Army on his 16th birthday and was honorably discharged in September 1951. It was during this time he met the love of his life, Kathryn "Katie", and the two spent over sixty years together. He worked at Firestone Tire Company for over 42 years and retired from the company in 1998.

Bill loved playing and socializing with his golf league buddies. He was known back in the day to be quite the pinochle player. He took great pride and enjoyed working in his perfectly manicured lawn.

Bill was a loving and devoted father and grandfather. He had wonderful memories of his grandchildren visiting his home and celebrating holidays together. He enjoyed watching them at sporting events, and supporting them in any way he could. Bill was known as the "#1 Fan" and "Grandpa" to all of his grandson, Preston's teammates and families. He almost never missed a basketball or baseball game to cheer on the team and he cherished these memories.

In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his loving wife, Kathryn Young (Obney); daughters, Billie K. Young, and Kathy Lynn Covey; sisters, Audrey Light (Young), and Dorothy Canright (Young); brothers, David and Jack Young.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Sandy (John) Clark and Linda (Jim) Leslie; grandchildren, Dan (Heidi) Leslie, Tracy (Jimmy) Jones, Richard (Katy) Jones, Bryan Jones, Bret Paul Mathies, Brent (Jenn) Mathies, Matthew Covey, James (Carolyn) Covey, and Preston Clark; 17 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.

Much thanks to his neighbors and friends, the Hahn's (Lucas, Lori, Carter and Brady) and John and Judy Franjesh for their love and friendship through the years.

The Young family would also like to thank Summa Hospice for their compassionate care for Bill.
