Billy Joe Maddox, 83, went home to be with his Lord Jesus on April 3rd, 2019. Born in Ripley, WV September 20th, 1935, he graduated high school and went on to attend Mechanic Trade School in Dearborn, MI. A life-long car enthusiast, he then worked at many auto shops in the Northeast Ohio area, eventually becoming a co-owner and operator of Copley Car Craft in the 1970's.
Billy was a hard-working family man who loved people and helped others whenever he possibly could. As a former Sunday School Superintendent at Stow Alliance Fellowship, his ministry also focused on working with widows and orphaned children, welcoming them into the church community and meeting every day needs such as transportation, supplying meals and fixing cars.
He loved the outdoors, adventuring with his family on cross-country road trips and taking his boat out on the water to show his daughters how to waterski. Never one to shy away from a teaching moment, he made sure that all his girls knew how to change a tire, skin a fish and stand up for themselves.
In his later life, he enjoyed line dancing with his wife, working on cars at his home and spending time with his granddaughters. He was a Son of the American Legion Post 281 in Cuyahoga Falls, Oh, participating in holiday parades, laying flowers at veteran's grave sites, and working with fellow members to meet other needs in the community.
Billy is survived by his devoted wife, Mary (Bogard); daughters Debra Lewis, Rebecca Maddox, and Patricia Zupko; granddaughters Holly Roberts (Taylor) and Lindsey Zupko. He was very close to his wife's family and lovingly recalled many wonderful memories made with The Bogard Family.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Homeless Veterans Program at The American Legion Post 281 located at 1601 Front St, Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44221.
Friends and family may visit on Sunday March 7, 2019 from 2pm until 4pm at Newcomer 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron, OH 44305. A memorial service will take place at 4pm.
