Carl J. Sturtz
Carl J. Sturtz, 91, of Akron, passed away August 21, 2011. He was born in Sandpatch, Pennsylvania on April 8, 1920. Carl proudly served in the U.S. Army in both the Battle of the Bulge and the Battle of Rhineland. He retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber after 39 years of service. Carl was a member of First Church of the Brethren. In his free time, he did lapidary and repaired watches. He enjoyed bowling, fishing, and traveling. He also enjoyed raising tomatoes and roses in his garden. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ferne Sturtz; two brothers and two sisters. He will be deeply missed by his children, Carl J. Sturtz II and Lorna Scarpitti; sister, Geraldine Eger of Pittsburgh; grandchildren, Albert E. (Amanda) Sturtz and Carl J. (Tina) Sturtz III; great-grandchildren, Carl J. Sturtz IV and Victoria Sturtz; good friend and former son-in-law, Tony Scarpitti. The family would like to thank the staffs at Summit Villa and Crossroads Hospice for all the care given to Carl. Visitation will be Friday, August 26th from 10 to 11 followed by an 11 a.m. funeral service at First Church of the Brethren, 1812 Marigold Ave, Akron, Pastor Gary Lorenz officiating. Interment at Rose Hill Burial Park with military honors provided by Mogadore VFW 8487. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Church of the Brethren.
