Carol Louise Henry Walters, 87 of Tallmadge, Ohio passed away peacefully at home on July 22, 2021. She was born in Weston, West Virginia on December 18, 1933 and was preceded in death by her father, Glen Henry, who died as a sailor in WWII in the Pacific; her mother, Elsie Woofter Henry, who died in 1999; her grandparents, Reese and Wilma Woofter; her aunt, Edna Woofter; her uncle, Herbert Woofter.
Carol was Salutatorian of her high school class in Weston, West Virginia and graduated from Bowling Green College in Kentucky. Upon graduation she moved to Washington, DC and joined the Health Education and Welfare organization, where she rose to be supervisor of over twenty women.
Carol met Noel, her future husband, at church in Washington DC while he was stationed in the Army at nearby Fort Belvoir, Virginia. They became engaged before he was transferred to Eniwetok in the Marshall Islands as part of a support group participating in atomic and hydrogen bomb testing. Upon his release from the Army, they were married on Valentine's Day, 1959, in Washington DC and then moved to Findley, Ohio, where Noel was employed by the Cooper Tire and Rubber Company and then subsequently moved to Akron, Ohio, where Noel joined the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company. They made their home in the Ellet area before moving to Tallmadge, Ohio, where they lived for over 50 years. The couple also had a winter home in Scottsdale, Arizona, where they wintered for 26 years.
Carol went to work in the late 60's when both of their daughters were in elementary school and retired with over 25 years of service from the University of Akron, where she rose to the position of Director of Admissions of the College of Law.
She had a dry sense of humor that would leave her family in stitches with a well-placed comment, and she was free with her giggles when something struck her funny bone. Her daughters have fond memories of their mother spending Saturdays at the dance studio with them, camping across the United States, and vacations in Washington DC, Kansas, Tampa/St. Petersburg, Florida and Scottsdale, Arizona. She is remembered by her daughters as a loving, self-sacrificing woman who cared tirelessly for loved ones although she herself was in pain all her life. She cared with a gentle, loving hand for her granddaughter Noelle when her mother Kimberly was ill as well as giving loving care to Kimberly. She also tirelessly cared for her mother, uncle and aunt while they were ill and dying. Carol was a woman who was well-loved by her family.
The family will have a celebration of Carol's life Saturday, August 21, 2021 at 11 a.m. at Community Christian Church, 210 N. Main St., North Canton, Ohio 44720. Those who wish may make memorial donations in Carol's name to the charity of their choice.
