Mrs. Carolyn Martin Nelson passed away in Houston, Texas on the 17th of April, 2020.
Mrs. Nelson was preceded in death by her parents, Nannie "Mama" and Edward "Popa," and her sister, Cathrine (63). She is survived by her three sisters, Rose Marie, Mary Helen, and Alma (Sissie); her children, Lewis Edward (Bud) and wife Lorik, William David (Bill) and wife Theresa, and Lorianne (Lori) and husband Calvin; 6 grandchildren, Jamie Vrudney and husband Brad, Brittney Kaufman, Michelle Phillips, Chastity Phillips, Calvin Phillips and wife Misty, Jeremiah Phillips and wife Margo; 13 great-grandchildren, Madison Vrudney, Hunter Vrudney, Aven Kaufman, Osbaldo Florez, Carl Bartholemew III, Kinsley Phillips, Kaitlyn Phillips,Kelsey Phillips, Corey Phillips, Conner Phillips, Kaysey Phillips, Courtney Lee and James Perkins; great-great grandchildren Lucus and Henry; and long time friend, Lewis William Nelson.
Mrs. Nelson (nee Martin) was born in Alabama. Her father left for Akron, Ohio to work for the rubber company. Carolyn Martin, her sister Rose and their Grandmother road the train to Ohio to meet with their father. She grew up in Springfield Township and graduated from Springfield High School. She lived in Suffield, Ohio for many years and was a member of the Suffield Jaycees until moving to Kent, Ohio. She then retired from the Banking industry after 30 years to take care of her aging parents back in Springfield Township. Once her caregiving was complete in 2008, she moved to Houston, Texas to live with her daughter Lorianne and spent her time being Mom, Grandma, Granny, Great Granny to anyone and everyone she met. She loved when family and friends would spend the day BBQing, swimming, or just visiting. She loved to have people around and loved to keep busy. She was a wonderful person, and she was the true meaning of unconditional love.
A visitation will be held Friday, May 8th in the Chapel of Carter Conley Funeral Home, 13701 Corpus Christi Street in Houston, Texas 77015 from 6 to 8 PM. A private remembrance service will later be held at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Road in Akron, Ohio 44305 followed by a private graveside service at Hillside Memorial Park, 1025 Canton Road in Akron, Ohio 44312.
