Edwin, affectionately known as "Red", was granted his final prayer request, early Tuesday evening, March 14, 2023 at the age of 91. He echoed the sentiments of the Apostle Paul, as he too, "pressed toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus."
Red was born in Greenville, Kentucky on October 4, 1931 to the late Carol Coleman and Mae Agnes Robinson. Rae, his loving wife of 70 years, passed 29 days prior to him. In addition to Rae, he was preceded in death by his brother, Guy Coleman and brothers-in-law, Calvin Claytor and Robert Hunsinger.
He was a longtime devoted member of Springfield Baptist Church where he served as a trustee, a choir and veteran's committee member as well as an advisory board member and joint financial secretary with Rae. He served our Nation during the Korean Conflict as a Navy diesel engine mechanic aboard the USS Boxer. He retired from the Chrysler Twinsburg Stamping plant as a Supervisor in the Security and Fire Departments with 32 years of service.
Red was never afraid to try something new. After retiring he learned to ski and joined the Goodyear Ski Club. Other hobbies included camping, traveling, hunting, archery, gardening, bicycling, jazzercise and range shooting. He loved and looked forward to gathering with his family for Taco Bell Saturdays.
He leaves behind two loving sisters, Louise Claytor and Eleanor (Ronald) Wilkinson, sister-in-law, Judy Coleman, along with nieces and nephews. Though Red and Rae never had children of their own they certainly had family.
Per his wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life Service for both Red and Rae will take place on Saturday, April 15, 2023 at Springfield Baptist Church, 1920 Krumroy Road, Akron, Ohio 44312. The memorial service is at 11 a.m. with visitation one hour prior. Pastor Larry Baldridge will officiate. Interment will take place at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pilot Dogs, 625 W. Town St., Columbus, Ohio 43215 (pilotdogs.org).
