Caryl Dawn Weaver age 90 of Akron, Ohio, died on August 18, 2018.
She was born in Akron on January 29, 1928, to the late Robert Wayne and Floriene (nee Claar) McClure and lived her entire life in Akron. After graduating from Kenmore High School, she enrolled in "nurses' training", as it was then called, at Akron City Hospital's School of Nursing until she married Ray A. Weaver on May 22, 1948.
She retired from Sears, after also working at Penney's, Lamb Electric, and Pflueger's. She was a great domestic engineer and cook. She was an avid (but responsible!) gambler. Caryl loved her bingo at Ellet Bingo Hall and her trips to Mountaineer and the Rocksino with her girls. She is one of the last members of the Tuesday night Ladies Bridge Club after 60 years. She also enjoyed gardening and reading. Caryl was the go-to person for the support and caring for extended family during times of need and illness. She passed on her sense of humor, can-do attitude, sense of independence, and love of good friends and family to her daughters. Mom was ahead of her time being a strong, no-nonsense woman and raised her girls to "never be dependent on a man", yet she was totally devoted to her lifelong best friend, Dad.
She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Ray A. Weaver; her daughters, Juanita (Joe Thatcher) Weaver and Dorothy (Tim) Perry, all of Tallmadge; and her beloved pet, Spanky, the cat.
In addition to her parents, Caryl was preceded in death by her brother, Vance.
Special thanks to the staff at Mulberry Gardens, Munroe Falls, for the care given during Mom's time there.
Family and friends may visit at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 North Canton Road, Akron, on Wednesday, August 22, 2018 from 10:00 - 11:00 AM, where funeral services will follow at 11:00 AM.
Caryl will be laid to rest at Hillside Memorial Park, Akron.
