Cecil D. Givens

Cecil D. Givens, 70, passed away surrounded by family on June 26, 2018. He was born December 4, 1947 to late parents Cecil C. and Arbutus Givens. Cecil graduated from Barberton High School in 1965 and retired from Babcock and Wilcox as a Senior Estimator after 46 years of service. He was very active in the Ellet community with Ellet Amateur Athletic Association and enjoyed coaching baseball and softball at both the local and travel ball level. Cecil was a commissioner with both the ASA and NSA organizations and coordinated many tournaments in the area.

In addition to his parents, Cecil was preceded in death by his infant sister, Carole; father-in-law, Earl V. Lott Sr.; mother-in-law, Dolores E. Lott. He is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Cheryl (Lott); children, James (Charla) Givens, Kimberly (Marcus) Madden; grandchildren, Taylor, Cameron, Conner, Cooper; uncle, Charles (Joan) Dorow; brothers-in-law, Earl V. (Fran) Lott Jr., Kenny (Peg) Lott, Dan (Maureen) Lott, Mike (Debbie) Lott; sisters-in-law, Kathy (Dave) Cullison, Linda (Charlie) Lehman, Patti (Mark) Engelhart, Jackie (Roger) Pethtel, Terri Smith; long-time friend, Ed Gregory; and other family and friends.

Visitation will be held from 4-8pm on Monday, July 2, 2018 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron, Ohio. Funeral mass will take place at St. Matthew Church, 2580 Berne St., Akron, Ohio, at 10am on Tuesday, July 3, 2018. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery, Akron, Ohio to follow.
