Charles E. Prater, 80, of Springfield, passed away August 8, 2013. He was born in Greasy Creek, KY on January 28, 1933 to the late Perry and Bessie Prater. Charlie loved to fish but was passionate about Blue Grass music.
He was preceded in death by his grandchild, Creasie Sue Prater; step-mother, Rissie Prater; brothers, Harold, Dennis Ray and James Gillam; sister, Bobbie Jean Ramsey.
Charlie is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Edith; children, Connie (Paul) Ward, Maggie (Mark) Oliver, Cindy (Carl) Ford, Bessie Hopkins, Troy (Shawn), David (Aleta), Mike (Shelly); 18 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren; brother, Luster; sister, Bonnie Adkins.
Family and friends may call on Tuesday, August 13, from 5-8 p.m. at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., where funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 14 at 1 p.m. with Pastor William Howe officiating. Interment at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to River of Life Church, 3281 State St. NW, N. Canton, OH 44720.
