Charles C. Porpora
Charles C. Porpora, 64, passed away after a short illness on October 31, 2004. He was born in Akron on November 3, 1939. He graduated from St. Mary Catholic High School in 1957. After being honorably discharged from the Navy, he graduated from the University of Akron. Charles was a longtime soccer official and was involved with the Canton Invaders Professional Indoor Soccer Team as well as a past president of the greater Akron Soccer Officials Association. He served as the chairman of the finance committee at St. Mary Church and organized two fundraisers a year for St. Mary School. He was the chairman of the Eucharistic Congress in Cleveland and a member of the Holy Name Society. Charles owned and operated Charles Management, a safety consulting company in Cleveland. He served as the first safety liaison to the United Nations, representing the World Safety Organization. In his free time, he was an avid golfer. He was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Catherine Porpora and sister, Trudy Hitchcock. He is survived by his wife, LoAnn Porpora; son, Michael (Lori); son, Mark Porpora; daughter, Ann (John) Nikirk; son, Steven Porpora; stepdaughter, Kimberle (Mark) Sharpless; five grandchildren; three nieces; many friends. Family and friends may call TODAY from 5-8 p.m. at NEWCOMER-FARLEY FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd. A rosary service will be held at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 750 S. Main St., with prayers at the funeral home at 9:15 a.m. Interment at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
