Charles E. Smith
Charles E. Smith, 84, went to be with the Lord on April 6, 2009. Charles was born in Fayetteville, WV and lived in Akron for the past 62 years. He worked in Norfolk, VA as a welder on U.S. Navy warships, was a U.S. Army veteran serving in World War II, and a member of the Barberton VFW Post #1066. He loved taking walks in the park, and his grandson taught him to love golf. Charles loved showering his great-grandchildren with hugs and kisses. Charles retired from Sieberling Rubber Co. after 32 years of service. Preceded in death by his lovely wife of 55 years, Beulah Marie; parents, Oscar Franklin and Ella Mae Smith; sisters, Juanita and Irene; and brother, Ralph. Charles is survived by his daughter, Carolyn (Larry) Mulkey; grandchildren, Gregory Steven (Tamara) and Carmen Ranee; great-grandchildren, Noah Christian and Gracelyn Emma; and many nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron, where funeral services will be held Friday at 12 noon with Rev. O.L. Henderson officiating.
