Charles B. Sweeney Jr., age 81, passed away February 9. He retired from Goodyear in 1990 with 43 years of service. During WWII he served in the Navy on LST 894, and was active in the Ohio and National LST reunions. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting. He was a founding member of his church Good Shepherd Lutheran. His greatest passion was spending time with his family. For many years he enjoyed watching his extended granddaughters of Grand Slam Fastpitch Softball in tournaments across the country. Chuck is preceded in death by his parents, Charles B. and Sarah E. (Casteel) Sweeney Sr; brother, Bill Sweeney; and sisters Mary Heller and Sally Balo. Chuck is survived by his wife Dorothy (Rich) of 57 years; his children, Cheryl (Chuck) Gunnells of Akron, Cindy (Mike) Boso of Akron, Chuck (Susan) Sweeney of Jackson; his grandchildren, Michelle (Bill) Yobi, Lee Michael and Katelynn Boso, and great-grandchildren William and Joe Yobi; and his sister Betty Meszaros. Calling hours will be at the Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N Canton Road, Akron, Tuesday, February 12 from 5 to 8 P.M. Funeral Services will be held at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 2254 Triplett Blvd, Akron, on Wednesday, February 13 at 11:00 A.M. Interment will be at Hillside Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church on Triplett Blvd.
