Clarence E. Stanley
Clarence E. Stanley, 87, passed away July 9, 2011, and is now in the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was born in Youngstown, OH, and lived most of his life in Akron. Clarence was a member of the New Horizons Christian Church. He retired from Children's Hospital, and also was a volunteer there for 14 years. Clarence was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during World War II in the 80th Infantry Division. His division received a Presidential Unit Citation for the battle at Bastone, and he received a Purple Heart. Clarence was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary; parents, Hobart and Fannie Stanley; and 3 siblings. He is survived by his children, Sharon Rigby, Linda (Bob) Wiley, Dan Stanley, and Bill (Kathy) Stanley; 10 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Jean Hardy; numerous nieces and nephews, and many other loving family members and friends. Calling hours will be held Wednesday, July 13, from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron. Funeral services will take place Thursday, July 14, at 11 am at New Horizons Christian Church, 290 Darrow Rd., Akron, 44305 with a visitation one hour prior. Pastors Jim Bane and Nicole Curet will be officiating. Interment to follow at Hillside Memorial Park.
